About SAFELipo®

SAFELipo is an innovative approach to liposuction and body contouring that many of the top plastic surgeons around the world are adopting at their practices.

This innovative 3-step process combines the benefits of fat redistribution/grafting, skin tightening, contour deformity correction and liposuction. As many SAFELipo surgeons will attest, this unique process has resulted in superior outcomes, minimized complications and ecstatic patients.

Board-certified or board eligible plastic surgeons trained by Dr. Wall using SAFELipo can remove substantial amounts of excess fat smoothly and evenly – even in revision procedures – while leaving delicate blood vessels and supporting structures intact. The result is a vastly improved contour free from surface irregularities, burns and other problems commonly seen with most other forms of liposuction. SAFELipo is so gentle and effective that it can be used on all parts of the body, including the face. It can also be used with excisional procedures safely and effectively.

How It Works

The heat generated by radiofrequency, ultrasound and laser liposuction causes cell death and an inflammatory response – both detriments to proper healing. SAFELipo allows surgeons to achieve significant fat removal in all body contouring procedures without causing thermal injury, even in revision procedures. The key lies in the 3 crucial steps:

The surgeon begins the procedure by separating the targeted fat globules completely from their attachments and from each other by using “exploded tip” cannulas. Without requiring any suction, this step effectively “emulsifies” the targeted fat, allowing them to be preferentially aspirated in the next step. This separation step also preserves the vital blood vessels and supporting tissue network that allows the skin to remain healthy, smooth and natural appearing.

Because the separation stage isolates the adipose tissue for removal, aspiration is rapid and causes virtually no bleeding. Trauma to the remaining fat, fascia, dermis and other tissues is minimal. The surgeon can also use smaller, less-aggressive cannulas in this step.

Again using an exploded cannula with no need for suction, the surgeon can then equalize the remaining subcutaneous fat into a consistent layer. This technique is the only one that allows surgeons to blend the suctioned or augmented areas into the surrounding areas, creating a truly sculpted effect. At this point, the completion of the previous steps allows for aggressive molding and contour equalization with both the cannula and the opposite hand. This equalization process gives the skin a uniform thickness by creating an underlying blanket of “local fat grafts” that prevent adhesion of the skin down to the muscles and fascia. The end product is a smooth, natural appearing contour. A rolling pinch test at the end of the procedure should reveal a smooth and even skin layer with an unvarying thickness – a necessity for an even contour.
