SAFELipo® for Excessive Sweating

SAFELipo Excessive Sweating logo

If you’re searching for a treatment for hyperhidrosis—a condition that causes excessive underarm sweating—liposuction may not be the first thing that comes to mind. The SAFELipo procedure safely and effectively disrupts the glands under the arms that produce sweat and cause odor. Patients enjoy long-lasting results without the risks posed by heat-based liposuction techniques.

What Is Hyperhidrosis?

Sweating during physical activity or before a professional presentation is normal. For some men and women, however, excessive underarm sweat is a daily concern that can be both embarrassing and costly. It may even lead people to avoid certain situations.

How Does SAFELipo Work for Excessive Sweating?

Dr. Simeon Wall Jr., who developed the SAFELipo technique, initially noticed that performing the body contouring technique in the lateral breast and underarm areas significantly reduced both sweat and odor. The exploded-tip cannula used during SAFELipo treatments physically disrupts some of the apocrine (sweat) glands in the area and deactivates others. Because SAFELipo uses power-assisted liposuction rather than heat, it won’t burn the skin, glands, or deeper tissues.

Removing or disrupting sweat glands to treat hyperhidrosis is safe. The body needs sweat glands to cool itself, but only about 2% of those glands are located in the underarms, and eliminating them doesn’t pose any risks.

Innovative Fat Grafting Technique Honored

A research paper describing expansion vibration lipofilling (EVL) was named “Best United States Paper 2018” by Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal, one of the most prestigious journals in all of surgery. EVL is a technique used as part of SAFELipo’s 3-step process, enhancing the safety, comfort, and results of large-volume fat grafting, including for Brazilian butt lift procedures.

Is SAFELipo the Best Treatment for Excessive Sweating?

Even though there are alternative hyperhidrosis treatments, they each have drawbacks not associated with SAFELipo. Thermal liposuction (procedures that use radiofrequency, ultrasound, or laser energy) can injure the skin or tissues and cause scarring.

BOTOX® injections deactivate sweat glands and are safer than thermal liposuction. But BOTOX is a temporary solution, and the injections must be repeated to maintain the results. SAFELipo permanently disrupts and deactivates sweat glands with minimal safety risks.

SAFELipo’s 3-step process of separation, aspiration, and fat equalization preserves the health of tissues in the treatment area, promoting a smooth recovery free of complications such as scarring or dermal adhesions.
