SAFELipo® Correct for Liposuction Repair

SAFELipo Correct Logo

The search for liposuction techniques that removed significant amounts of fat without creating contour deformities continued for more than 3 decades until the development of SAFELipo. In fact, Dr. Simeon Wall Jr.’s innovative 3-step procedure was initially designed specifically for revision liposuction patients coming to Dr. Wall’s practice for correction of botched liposuction.

Who Needs SAFELipo for Correction?

Traditional liposuction techniques require plastic surgeons to delicately balance the amount of fat being removed against the potential complications associated with the procedure. These complications include wavy, dimpled skin; uneven results; or other contour deformities. Generally, the more fat removed, the greater the risk of encountering these issues.

Liposuction procedures that use heat to target fat cells—such as lasers, radiofrequency, and ultrasound—often damage or destroy adjacent blood vessels and other tissues, which can result in the skin adhering to the underlying thin muscle layer. This creates the appearance of skin tethered to the muscle, which looks unnatural with a lumpy, uneven surface.

What Makes SAFELipo Different?

Developed with the goal of correcting uneven, dimpled, and wavy contours, SAFELipo’s unique 3-step process uses a gentler technique called power-assisted liposuction (PAL) that doesn’t use thermal (heat) energy. This loosens and emulsifies the targeted fat, which our surgeons remove easily using a smaller cannula. It’s less invasive than other forms of liposuction, reducing scarring and damage to surrounding tissues and delicate blood vessels adjacent to the layer of fat.

The third step—fat equalization—is a key feature of SAFELipo’s overwhelmingly successful results for patients with bad liposuction results or contour deformities. Using state-of-the-art technology, including specialized Microaire bent cannulas, surgeons can fix bad liposuction results by creating an even layer of fat that serves as a buffer to prevent the skin from attaching to the underlying tissue. This eliminates contour deformities such as waves, dimples, and other imperfections that patients want to be corrected.

Who Can Perform Revision Liposuction Using SAFELipo?

SAFELipo surgeons must complete a specialized SAFELipo training course and must be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery or be eligible for board certification. A board-certified plastic surgeon completes a minimum of 5 years of specialized surgical training after earning a medical degree.

Innovative Fat Grafting Technique Honored

A research paper describing expansion vibration lipofilling (EVL) was named “Best United States Paper 2018” by Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal, one of the most prestigious journals in all of surgery. EVL is a technique used as part of SAFELipo’s 3-step process, enhancing the safety, comfort, and results of large-volume fat grafting, including for Brazilian butt lift procedures.
